College Success Tips from Our Students and Alumni

On June 20^th, we will have over 700 students participating in our graduation ceremony. This led us to wonder, “What advice would our students and alumni give to others who are just starting their degree program?” So we asked them, and naturally, they all had great university success strategies. Whether you’re just starting your first class or still trying to decide if you’re ready to go back to school, their advice might help ensure your success.

Rachel B. “Pick a routine, stick to it, and you won’t fall behind. Don’t take any breaks – save an “easy” class – take those instead of a break…”

Brandon P. “Review the whole course map before the term begins, and attack the reading first. You can always circle back as you work through the assignments each week, but the more content you can absorb early in the course, the better.”

Abrahamica S. “Be organized. Stay on top of all assignments. Pace yourself. Stay focused…and remember that the path to success is not always the easiest path to take… YOU CAN DO THIS!”

Chad M. “Be organized, and stick to your study times. Also, take a break every now and again even if it’s 15-20. Helps refocus after a couple of hours of studying.”

Diane J.F. “Dig in, and don’t look back.”

Debbie S. “Stay focused!!! There will be days you want to give up. But it’s one day at a time, one assignment at a time… It’s worth it in the end.”

Michelle O. “Work on your final projects throughout the ENTIRE term. You have the assignment on day one, don’t wait until the last Sunday to try to write 10 pages.”

Joe D. “Don’t give up. It took me 52 months taking one class at a time, but it is so worth it!”

Jon S. “Pay attention to deadlines, answer essay questions precisely to the question, take your time with references, be courteous, and take it one week at a time. Most professors are very understanding; do email them if you have some difficulties.”
