Faces of Global | Senior Faculty Associate Dr. Eric Williams

When Dr. Eric Williams first became an adjunct faculty member at CSU Global, he hadn’t even considered teaching full-time.

But after a few years, Dr. Williams decided to bring his wealth of first-hand industry experience to CSU Global full-time as a Senior Faculty Associate in the Healthcare Administration and Management program. 

“I had been working at Children’s Hospital Colorado for over a decade by then. I didn’t know teaching was what I was supposed to be doing until I actually did it,” Dr. Williams said. “But I quickly realized I loved sharing my real-world expertise with students.”

Those years of healthcare administration and business operations experience at one of the top children’s hospitals in the world, along with more than 20 years serving in the U.S. Army, have given Dr. Williams a trove of knowledge to share with his students.

“Instead of being restricted by a course’s content, as I’ve seen at other universities, our faculty at CSU Global is encouraged to enrich a course by sharing our professional experiences,” he explained. “It really does enrich the learning experience.”

One of the aspects of CSU Global’s curriculum that Dr. Williams is most proud of is the applicability of course scenarios and discussion. 

“We don’t just talk about successes. We talk about the missteps – the mistakes! When you’re responsible for something that can cost $800,000 to remedy, as you might be in a healthcare management setting, and things don’t turn out how they are planned, that’s a hard pill to swallow. This is a challenging field. But, our instructors are here to teach you how to lead successfully and how to address those challenges thoughtfully when they do happen because that’s real life.”

Dr. Williams acknowledges that it can be hard for some to understand until they witness it in a course, but he is dedicated to giving his students personalized attention. “Even in an online environment,” he says, “there is that ‘a ha’ or lightbulb moment for students. “I see it happen all the time and it’s incredibly rewarding.”
